I keep hearing people talking about wanting to see the new Charlie Kaufman film, Synecdoche, New York, but everyone is calling it Schenectady, New York, which, though that is an actual city in New York, is not the name of the film. While the title is a play on the real city’s name, it also has its own meaning. The Wikipedia page for synecdoche provides the etymology and meaning of the word, as well as a link to the Kaufman film page.
In the mean time, I’ll continue to mutter silently to myself when I hear people call it Schenectady.
