Just got a chance to watch the Apple MacBook/Pro event since it happened while I was in Vegas. The new machines look really great, but I think the most interesting item was the new Cinema Display that is designed specifically for laptops. If you buy that display to, say, be your secondary iMac display, you’re going to have a MagSafe power adaptor just hanging out, which is awkward.
I think it’s becoming very clear over time that Apple is moving entirely to laptop business, and is no longer focusing on desktop computers. Which is probably a good move. I really love my iMac, but unless something very amazing occurs in the near future, my next Mac will probably once again be a MacBook Pro. Luckily, we’ve now gotten to the point where the MacBook Pro has nearly-desktop-class graphics power and much larger hard drives than my last MBP.
I am sorry to see FireWire go, since it’s faster than USB2, although I have only FW800 devices now anyway and that’s still available in the Pro line.
