Maniacal Rage

17 Jan

I am absolutely fascinated with the Soulja Boy dance phenomenon currently taking place in the world (and, mostly notably, the internet). Of course, it started with the release of “Crank Dat”, and pretty quickly morphed into a full-scale, country-wide obsession.

Now we’ve got celebrities, athletes, children and single mothers doing this Soulja Boy dance all over the place, and most of it is inexplicably recorded and posted on the internet. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been collecting my favorites and I’m excited to share these ridiculous clips with you, hoping you’ll become equally confused, thrilled and obsessed with this ridiculous song and dance the whole goddamned country is doing.

Parodies

I have a great love for parody (which includes creating parodies), so I enjoy finding interesting recreations of the song. Here are a few of my favorites:

Strange Edits of Other Content

Another way the Soulja Boy dance has been smashed into all video websites is by editing non-Soulja-Boy-related material to look like the people in the videos are dancing (or just acting nuts to the music, which is very close to dancing anyway). These edits range from terrible to good, but they’re almost always strangely entertaining:

Your Children, Doing This

Obviously, kids love to dance. So why not take a moment away from teaching them the classics like, say, ballet, to have them learn the Soulja Boy dance. “Isn’t my Billy just the best at Superman-ing hoes!”

Last But Not Least

My two favorite things to come out of all this Soulja Boy insanity, not related whatesoever to the dance:

There you have it. This is only the beginning of what I’m sure will become a phenomenon so large it will eventually collapse in on itself, destroying the very fabric of space and time along with it. Until then, Superman your hoes.
