brandoncash asked: I noticed in your iTunes comparison images that you have devices named norman and victor. I'm always interested in the reasons people name their devices like they do. What's the reasoning behind the names of your devices?

Over the top? Not top enough!
I watched the 2010 reboot of A Nightmare On Elm Street the other night, mostly because we have cable again now and movie channels so I watch any random crap that’s on when I’m bored and also because I love really bad horror movies. Jackie Earle Haley plays Freddy Krueger, adding to his amazing career of playing mostly child molesters. That’s the thing about this movie: They...

Analog for Mac - Give your photos some soul →
Speaking of apps that do what Instagram does on platforms Instragram doesn’t support, Realmac Software has just launched Analog for Mac. Looks nice. Of course, the difference here is that Anolog simply applies the filters and uploads—it doesn’t offer its own service. Send your photos to Flickr, Facebook, others.

What are we supposed to do with Google+?
I find Google+ confusing. Not its features or its design, but rather how I’m meant to use it. I find myself regularly asking the following questions: Is Plus simply Google’s version of Facebook? Maybe. But if that’s the case, does that mean I should switch from Facebook to Google+? And if I do that, what about the people in my Facebook friends list who don’t also switch...

Flickr: Introducing the Flickr Android App →
Remember when everyone was saying, “Hey, Flickr really should have done Instagram before Instagram.” And everyone thought, yeah, they really missed out. Well, I think Flickr knows this and regrets it, so they just did the next best thing: They added Instagram-like filtering to their new Android app, which runs on an OS Instagram hasn’t targeted. Is this going to come to iOS too?

I'm Anxious
Bill Griesau: Watching the Jets game?
Me: About to right now. I can never tell if you're anxious for me to watch because it's bad or good.
Bill Griesau: I'm anxious because I love the Jets like you love (insert something you love a lot).
Bill Griesau: I went through the first 23 years of my life not being a sports fan.
Bill Griesau: I never understood how a team could make you feel, until very recently.
Me: Man, who knew that having a stroke while delivering pizza to a sports medicine clinic would change your life so drastically.

Gowalla 4 and Loss of Personal Milestone Data
I’ve been using Gowalla since its launch in 2009. Between Foursquare and Gowalla, the latter always seemed more interesting to me in that it took the common check-in functionality and added a fun layer of collection. You collected and traded “items” (basically, icons) and earned “pins” (state pins, country pins, achievement pins) in addition to simply informing your...

Louis C.K. walks The A.V. Club through Louie,... →
Part one of a four-part series wherein Louie talks at length about the writing, directing and brainstorming for one of the best shows on television, Louie. First, if you’re not watching this show, you’re missing out. Second, if you’re watching the show, read this immediately, it’s great stuff.

whatlaurensays asked: Your "About" page is written in the third person... does this mean that people writing about themselves in the third person doesn't make you physically sick? Or did you have a friend write it for you?

The Great Discontent: Garrett Murray →
The Great Discontent is one of the best designed sites I’ve seen this year, and the interviews are in-depth and fun to read. From the moment I saw the site I was in love and wanted to be involved. Thankfully, Ryan and Tina gave me the opportunity and we spent an hour on Skype talking about life, the pursuit of happiness, and ABC’s hit-drama from the 90s, The Commish.

swimmindustries asked: Really like the new look. I am just starting to move my site to Tumblr and wondering how you handle theme building. It's such a pain. I've messed around with TumblrThemr, but that has its own set of issues. If you have a non SUPER PAINFUL way to customize I'd love to hear it.

Pictos Font →
I’m using this awesome web font to render the Twitter, Flickr and Projects icons in the header of this new design. Cheap, well designed and easy to use, and it completely removes the need for small icons. Because I’m using this font and CSS for the rest of the design of this site, the only images I had to use were the ridiculous black and white and color versions of my face.

Going On Quests
Will Wilkinson: You crossed me.
Will Wilkinson: I treat you like a princess.
Will Wilkinson: And you stab me in the back.
Me: It's true, you have been really good about finding my missing shoes and going on quests to find me and then put them back on.

New Design, You'd Better Like It!
Finally had a chance to put the finishing touches on a new design for this site. I’ve been thinking about this new design for about four months, and working on the actual code on and off for the past two weeks. The last time I redesigned was in April of 2010—nearly a year and a half ago. For me, that’s a personal record (I’ve redesigned this site 20 times in the past 6...

Ten Years
I was across the street working in World Financial Center 2 the morning of September 11, 2001. I heard the second plane hit, heard the explosion, and for a moment thought I was going to die. But I didn’t. I walked out of the building alongside hundreds of others and looked across the street at two burning skyscrapers, amazed and horrified, confused and nervous. We watched as people leapt...

Apartment Therapy Unplggd: LA Master Bedroom Home... →
So much fun to be featured at Apartment Therapy again. I’m a huge fan of the site and to be featured once before was a treat—this second time is just gravy.
