Anonymous asked: Hey Garrett. So I have the idea for the killer app, but the last programming I did was in VBA. Is it probably too much to try to learn to program for the iPhone, and if so any thoughts about how to get a programmer to write it without giving too much away? It's a pretty simple app (I believe).

Gourmet Live is... LIVE
It is with great pleasure that I announce one of Karbon’s first client projects, Gourmet Live, is now available for free in the App Store. Gourmet Live reimagines the iconic brand as a sort of massively multiplayer magazine, where you earn amazing content just by reading and using the application. You can browse through new and classic content, unlock rewards, favorite stories and...

Open for Business
A little over six months ago, I left pinch/zoom, the company I co-founded with my friend Brian Fling in 2008. It was a hard decision, but after many long conversations about what we each wanted to work on, it became clear we had different paths and it was time to part ways. Brian is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met (and a hell of a talker) and I was sad to leave behind what we had...

Finished Season 3
Me: BTW, finished season 3 of Mad Men, which was by far my favorite.
Shawn Morrison: Yeah, that was a great finale.
Shawn Morrison: I thought the same thing about season 3 until I started watching this season.
Shawn Morrison: The show really jumped the shark when Peggy became a vampire but whatever, the writing is still so good.
Me: God, that would be awesome.
Shawn Morrison: Wouldn't it?
Shawn Morrison: They just cut to her in scenes and she's just drooling blood and grunting.
Me: If it just slowly morphed into a supernatural show. Really slowly at first.
Me: Like something weird happens in the background in one scene.
Me: And eventually it's vampires and zombies and stuff.
Me: Meanwhile they keep trying to run the agency.
Shawn Morrison: Why aren't we in television?
Me: I can't think of a reason.

Visual Differences Between iTunes 9 and 10 →
A year ago, I compared the then-brand-new iTunes 9 against its predecessor. New year, new version of iTunes, so here’s an updated comparison. It’s amazing to see just how much visual tweaking Apple does with each new major version of the application. I’ve also slightly redesigned the whole thing this year so that you can easily view last year’s comparison, and a fun 8...

Selected Notes From Watching Today's Apple Keynote...
[Steve Jobs mentions the iPad will support the new HDR photos feature] Me: Why did he just say HDR photos on iPad? Me: There is no camera. Shawn Morrison: Unless they’re bumping the iPad today too. Obviously the next iPad will have a camera. Me: At least a front-facing one for Face Time. I would buy a new one for that. Shawn Morrison: I’ve...
